At Perfect Form we offer Pilates classes, one to one sessions and clinically based Pilates in our fully equipped private Pilates Studio.
Small Pilates Classes
Our Pilates classes, held in a private studio, have no more than five people in them.
If you are looking at injury prevention, wanting to improve your performance for a specific sport or generally wanting to improve your posture and tone, then taking part in one of these small class will benefit you.
Pilates in One-to-One Fitness Training
If you simply do not like classes or you want the full, undivided attention of a qualified Pilates instructor, then a one-to-one is a great option.
For those following a sport, energetic pastime or determined fitness programme, integrating Pilates into your training can help you achieve the best muscular and skeletal balance and therefore improve your performance.
Golf, badminton, tennis, squash, rugby, football, cricket and so on, even walking, all make physical demands on the body. Pilates, applied appropriately, can condition muscles to meet these demands, thus improving performance and reducing the risk of injury.
Benefits of Pilates in Fitness Training
Benefits that Pilates can bring to a fitness training and exercise programme include:
- Improvements to posture and balance
- Increases in strength, including strengthening the core
- Increases in stamina
- Preventing Injury
Clinical Pilates
Clinical Pilates is the application of Pilates in the treatment of individual needs and clinical conditions.
Clinical Pilates should not be confused with fitness Pilates, which is the most common branch of Pilates, the one found in fitness classes where the emphasis is on exercise and fitness training.
If you have a long term back, neck, hip or postural issue or you need rehabilitation following an injury, illness or surgery, then a full assessment followed by individual clinically based Pilates might be the appropriate way forward.
Pilates Equipment
The studio has the added benefit of being able to include the use of the Reformer and Trapeze as well as many pieces of small equipment to enhance your training. The Pilates Reformer and Trapeze are a very important component of your clinically based Pilates programme.
Pilates in Your Fifties and Beyond
Age in itself is not a limiting factor to the practice and enjoyment of Pilates. As Joseph Hubertus Pilates, the creator the Pilates method, is quoted as saying:
“If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old. If it is completely flexible at 60, you are young.”
And Pilates himself practiced his method right up to his death in 1967 at the age of 87.
Public and gym Pilates classes may not suit everyone attending them. It may not suit you because of a particular concern you have over the best way to pursue this popular and potentially highly beneficial form of exercise. This becomes increasingly the case as the years advance.
For clients in their fifties and beyond, after consultation and careful assessment, I tailor Pilates programmes to suit their pace, physical condition and preferences for exercise.
